The Effects of Tension Headache Patients' Perception abour the Therapist Professional

Abstract
The present study was designed to test the tension headache patients' perception about
the therapist professional on headache reduction, frontalis electromyographic(EMG) levels,
self-efficacy and health locus of control in the EMG biofeedback training. Twentyfive tension
headache patients were randomly assigned either to a group called the Professional Therapist
Group(n=14) or to a group called the Non-professional Therpist group(n=11). From the
baseline stage to the follow up stage(60 days), all subjects were asked to report their daily
headache activities on headdache diary and to complete self-efficacy scale and health locus of
control scale at before and after treatment. The duration of frontalis EMG biofeedback
training were 40 days(8 sessions). The headache activities(headache index) and frontalis EMG
levels in both groups were significantlyreduced after treatment, but the Professional Therapist
Group was significantly more effective than Non-professional Group. The sense of
self-efficacy of the Professional Therapist Group was significantly increased after treatment,
but not significantly increased in the Non-professional Group. The interal health locus of
control in both groups were significantly increased after treatment, but the Professional
Therapist Group was significantly more increased than Non-professional Therapist Group.
Finally, limitations and suggestions of the present study were discussed.
